Would You WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES?

wam posterOn Friday, May 30 the YWCA of Greater Flint will be presenting the Fifth Annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event.  This event is a fundraiser for the many services and programs that the YWCA provides and also serves as a reminder of the struggles which many women must face.  This event isn’t all about serious issues though as the focus here is on the fun part of fundraising.  For this event men will don everything from high heels to sparkly flip-flops and will show their support of speaking out against rape as they walk from the YWCA to 501 Bar & Grill in Downtown Flint in all their glory.  Men can walk as teams or as individuals as they raise money and try to win some prizes as you do and all money goes directly to the YWCA to support the work it does but this is truly an event where the more people that participate the merrier.  Walkers must raise a minimum of $50 in pledges but will be registered when they do, will get a  t-shirt, and a ticket to the after party if you join the fun.  Non-walkers who want to support the cause and come out to party can also purchase tickets to the after party for $30.  Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes is never an easy prospect but when you can help raise money for a very worthy organization a little pain becomes a very big gain.

Join The YWCA For A Night Of Guest Bartending With The Fine, The Fit & The Philanthropists

YWCAThis Thursday the YWCA of Greater Flint will be holding a Guest Bartending Event at 501 Bar And Grill in Downtown Flint.  Three teams of two will each take a turn making drinks at the bar showing off their mad skills as they raise money for the many women and children served locally by the YWCA.  The event will be held from 6PM – 9PM with each group taking a one hour shift. Tips are the key here because while this is indeed a fundraiser it’s also a competition and bragging rights are a powerful thing to control in this area and some pretty hefty bragging rights are on the line here. Each team will be raising money for a wonderful local organization and as they do they will also be working to see who can bring in the most tips and be called the winners and champions.  Pouring the drinks will be faces and names that will be familiar to a lot of you – Shannon Easter White, Elizabeth Siler Wise, Genesys Athletic Club‘s Jen Colombo and Melissa Aris, and Philip Shaltz and Dr. Bobby Mukkamala respectively.

So many fundraisers are stuffy, serious affairs but this one is built for fun and with the added bonus of bragging rights on the line it’s easy to imagine how competitive this event is going to be.  Come out and show your support for a great cause and some great sports who are giving their time to help people in our community who need a little help.

Greater Flint YWCA Asks Men To Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

Walk A Mile Poster 2013On Thursday, May 30th the YWCA of Greater Flint will be holding its Fourth Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event to raise money for the organization’s many programs as well as to bring more awareness to speaking out against rape and sexual assault.  The walk’s purpose is to bring to light serious issues in a way that celebrates women and gives everyone a giggle at the expense of men.  For the walk men take pledges of at least $50 and then take to the streets in any fashionable female footwear that will fit to walk that proverbial mile in her shoes.  Pledges raised help support the services and programs of the YWCA of Greater Flint and all the work they do with women’s issue and afterwards there will be a party where everyone can unwind.  Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a wonderful event for the community that is able to bring a small touch of lightheartedness to raising money for an important community resource and an important issue.
