This Saturday marks the third year for the Flint Horror Convention, Flint’s annual horror tradition that brings the fun of Halloween to the area a little early. With a low entry cost of $10 fans get a full day of fun that includes celebrity guests, costume contests, movies, vendors, a creepy pin up contest, and more all under the roof of Downtown Flint’s Masonic Temple. In past years fans have had a chance to meet some of the actors, directors, and make-up people behind their favorite horror films and this year will be no different with actors from DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, TROMEO & JULIET, and OZ – THE GREAT AND POWERFUL on hand, one of the country’s most recognized ‘horror hosts’, the person who created THE EVIL DEAD’s famous ‘Book of the Dead’, and a comic artist who worked on the post-apocalyptic zombie epic DEAD WORLD. Joining all of these celebrities will be over forty vendors selling everything from movies, to comics, to posters, to art, to shirts, to toys, creepy collectibles, and lots in between. If you need a break during the day and want to sit down for a bit you can check out the movie room, which will be featuring independent horror films from around the world, many which have never been screened in the state before.
The Flint Horror Convention is a family friendly event with free admission to kids under ten and a costume contest just for them where they can win great prizes. This is an event that was born in Flint and continues to grow every year and if you have an interest in the weird, the macabre, and in spending an entire day in horror heaven then you’ll want to stop by the convention and say ‘boo’!
