A Day Of Peace and Remembrance

This is an event that is a little more serious than the others but is a wonderful way to get involved in the community. The focus here is a Unity March and a Community Expo just outside of Downtown Flint. Things kick off at 11AM with the Unity March where participants will walk together to promote peace and people are encouraged to bring memorial tributes to their loved ones. This will be followed up by a Community Expo with dozens of organizations offering information on the many services they provide. There will be free food for all that attend as well. Later in the evening there will be a Gospel Fest to end the evening with musical fellowship.

It’s the kind of weekend that makes this area so special and reminds you of the diversity and wonder our area holds and truly beckons you to see and be seen.

The Summer Will Once More Be Filled With Shakespeare In The Parks

Kearsley ParkThis year marks the tenth anniversary of Shakespeare In The Park in Kearsley Park and over the years it has become a beloved summer staple in Flint. For those with a love of theater and the great bard though the Kearsley Park Players will be taking their troupe on the road and not just in the park this season. The production for the 2014 season will be the comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor and the season kicks off on Friday, June 13 in Kearsley Park. From there the show will move to For-Mar, then to the Linden County Park, and will close out in Flushing County Park on June 21. The play is beloved for its comedic take on class, wealth, and the usual jealousy and revenge Shakespeare is known for and the play will be directed by Kay Kelly, who oversees Kearsley Park.

Shakespeare In The Park has become a summer tradition in Flint and is truly one of Flint and Genesee County’s treasures. Theater season is about to be back and it’s a great time to start making your plans.

Linden Mills Days Return For Another Year Of Small Town Fun

LMD-NEW-BANNERThe carnival is coming back for Linden Mills Days and that’s just part of the fun that will be happening the weekend of June 20 – 23.  The Skrebeck Carnival will be in Linden for the entire weekend with their rides, games, and prizes and with that you’ll have garage sales, sidewalk sales, and a library book sale to keep you and the family busy.  There will be a Kid Zone set up where the kids can get lunch and fun for one price as mom and dad check out what else is going on in town.  There will be a talent contest Friday, live entertainment all weekend, and a triathlon designed for people who have never done one before.  With art shows, car shows, local authors, and a historical walking tour of Linden there’s enough things to do to fill two weekends but you’ll have to try to squeeze in as much fun as you can in just four days.
