It’s Walleye Time In Flushing!

WalleyeIt’s funny how time flies because it’s once more time for Flushing’s Walleye Festival.  The event will kick off this Friday with on-site registration from 4 – 6PM and the first weigh-in of the weekend at 7PM so you will have plenty of time to try to reel in that big one before you make your way to the fish fry where you can get your fill of our finned friends and get ready for the rest of the weekend’s fishing.

All weekend there will be a trout pond set up for the kids that will be open during day time hours.  Saturday there is a Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast from 7AM – 10:30AM with the proceeds benefiting the Flushing Christian Outreach Center and the Hurley Pediatric Cancer Unit and there’s not a better way to start your day.  After you have you had all you can eat of pancakes you can either head out to fish or hit up the Family Fun Expo, which will be held indoors at the St. Roberts Activity Center where the other indoor events will be held all weekend.  After Saturday night’s weigh-in at 6PM you can head off to a Wild Game Dinner put on by the Lions Club and then end the night with a friendly Texas Hold ‘Em Tourney.  The Festival winds up with more fishing on Sunday and a final weigh-in at 1PM with the awards ceremony to follow.

This is going to be a fantastic festival with fun for the whole family and lots to do both indoors and out.  Get all of your fishing gear ready, get out your warmest clothes out and make plans to be in Flushing this weekend because even if you don’t fish there’s lot to see, to do, and lots of memories waiting to be made.

For Late Summer Fun With The Family It’s Time To Head To The Parks!

With all of the area schools about to start back up it’s time for some last Summer adventures and memories and this weekend will offer two great opportunities to do just that.

On August 30 you and the family can celebrate National Toasted Marshmallow Day at Buell Lake County Park in Clio.  You’ll want to bring a chair, a blanket, or something else comfortable to sit on and be ready for a lot of deliciousness as marshmallows are honored for their place in our hearts and at our campfires. This event is free and open to families of all ages. The event is from 7PM to 9PM.

On August 31 families can join Silly Saturday at Bluebell Beach for an hour of fun with food at the Splash Pads where kids can make whipped cream hair styles, throw pudding, and more!  Things will get messy so everyone will want to wear old clothes or swimsuits and bring their beach towels for drying off after a good scrubbing up when the fun ends.  This is free and open to families of all ages and runs from 1-2PM.
