Coming June 18: Dort Federal Credit Union’s Taste of the Market in Flint

FLINT, Michigan — The Flint Farmers’ Market proudly announces the Dort Federal Credit Union “Taste of the Market” on Saturday, June 18, 2011.  The event will take place from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Flint Farmers’ Market which is located at 420 East Boulevard Drive just off I-475 Exit 8A.  The event is open to the public and free of charge.  It will be held on the Citizens Bank side of the market.

Dort Federal Credit Union’s Taste of the Market will feature healthy cooking demonstrations by five professional chefs from the American Culinary Federation Flint-Saginaw Chapter (ACF):

Chef Tobin Loomin, Holiday Inn Gateway Center              

Chef Mark Handy, Genesys Convalescent

Chef Steve McAllister, Lunch Naturally      

Chef Dan Reyes, All Occasions Catering

Chef Joe Nader, Levy Restaurants – Ford Field

Additionally, the event will feature canning tips from student chef, Alene Smith.  The event was organized with assistance from Chef Douglas St. Souver, Food Network Carving Champion and friend of the market.  Chef Douglas, now in residence at the market, will also be onsite serving up great dishes at his new restaurant, Artisans Gourmet Deli located on the east end of the market near the wine shop.

The ACF chefs will also participate in weekly cooking demonstrations at the Flint Farmers’ Market every Thursday at 12:00 P.M. on the back “porch” of Artisans Gourmet Deli.  The weekly cooking demonstrations are also sponsored by Dort Federal Credit Union in partnership with Mott Community College Culinary Arts Program and the ACF.
